NEC's parallel port hard disk drives provide portability and convenient installation. They are easy to install since no adapter card is required. Just connect to printer port with interface cable, attach external AC power adapter, load installation software, and your hard disk drive is ready to use. Once the hard drive is installed, it will be assigned a DOS drive letter and function like a standard internal hard disk drive.
The unit contains "write protect" and "spin down" options. Enabling write protect will prevent all writes to the disk by any program. Spin down brings the drive spindle motor to a stop and can be engaged immediately or upon exceeding a specified period of time following disk activity.
Daisy chaining allows up to eight compatible devices plus a printer to be attached to the host desktop or notebook PC.
NEC parallel port hard drives are compatible with both unidirectional and bidirectional standard parallel ports as well as with the Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) and Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP).
